The Touchline Score is a comprehensive 0-100 rating system that identifies undervalued Fantasy Premier League players. By analyzing performance, fixtures, and ownership data, we surface the differentials that could give you the edge in your mini-leagues.
The Problem with Traditional FPL Metrics
Most FPL tools show you points per game, form, and ownership as separate numbers. You're left to manually compare players and calculate differential value in your head. Should you pick the 8.5% owned midfielder with 6.2 points per game, or the 2.1% owned forward with 5.8 PPG but easier fixtures? Traditional metrics don't answer this question—they just give you raw data and leave you to figure it out.
The FPL ICT Index attempts to rate players holistically, but it doesn't factor in ownership at all. A 50% owned premium player can score just as highly as a 2% owned gem, making it useless for differential hunting. Points per game (PPG) doesn't account for fixtures ahead or value for money. Ownership filters alone don't tell you which low-owned players are actually worth considering versus which are benchwarmers.

The Touchline Score combines all relevant factors—form, fixtures, price, underlying stats, and crucially, ownership—into a single, actionable number. Players are evaluated specifically for their differential potential, not just raw quality. This means a template player like Salah might score low despite being an excellent FPL asset, because his 40%+ ownership eliminates differential value. Meanwhile, a 3% owned midfielder on hot form with great fixtures can score 85+, immediately signaling they deserve your attention.
How It's Calculated
Performance & Form
WeightedRecent form, points per game, expected goal involvement, and FPL's ICT Index combine to evaluate current output and underlying statistics. Strong performers flying under the radar score highest here.
Position-Specific Metrics

Availability Check
CriticalInjured, suspended, or unavailable players automatically score 0. Doubtful players face heavy penalties. Availability is non-negotiable.
From Raw Points to Final Score
All factors are combined into a weighted score for each player. Players are then ranked and converted to a 0-100 scale using an exponential curve. This ensures elite differentials are rare and scores are distributed meaningfully, with only the very best reaching 90+.
Score Distribution
The exponential curve ensures high scores are earned, not given. Most players fall in the 0-70 range, while only exceptional differentials break into the elite tiers.
Elite
Top 2% of players. Exceptional differentials with outstanding metrics and low ownership.
Great
Next 3% of players. Strong differentials worth serious consideration for your squad.
Strong
Top 95th percentile. Solid differentials with good potential for returns.
Moderate
Average differential potential. Consider based on specific team needs and fixtures.
Weak
Limited differential value. High ownership or poor metrics make these risky picks.
Template / Avoid
Either template players (very high ownership) or unavailable/injured players to avoid.
Touchline Score vs Other FPL Metrics
Understanding how the Touchline Score differs from traditional FPL metrics helps you use it effectively:
vs FPL ICT Index
ICT Index: Rates overall quality (Influence, Creativity, Threat) but ignores ownership entirely. Template players score just as high as differentials.
Touchline Score: Applies exponential ownership penalty. A 40% owned premium scores low even with great ICT stats, because ownership eliminates differential value. Perfect for finding undervalued gems.
vs Points Per Game (PPG)
PPG: Shows historical scoring rate but doesn't account for fixtures, price, or upcoming schedule changes.
Touchline Score: Incorporates upcoming fixture difficulty. A player with 5.5 PPG but facing three tough opponents scores lower than one with 5.2 PPG and great fixtures ahead. Forward-looking, not just backward-looking.
vs Form
Form: Simply averages last 3-5 gameweeks. Treats all matches equally regardless of opponent strength.
Touchline Score: Weights recent form but contextualizes it. Scoring against weak defenses counts differently than versus strong teams. Underlying stats (xG, xA) also factor in to identify sustainable vs lucky form.
vs Points Per Million
Points Per Million: Shows value efficiency but doesn't distinguish between cheap bench fodder and genuine starter-quality budget options.
Touchline Score: Considers minutes played and starting probability. A £4.5m defender with one fluky 30-point haul won't score highly if they're not a regular starter. Value must be sustainable.

Mix elite differentials (90+) with safer picks (70-80). Don't fill your team with only high-risk options.
